Beschreibungen

The book focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying the pharmacological properties of flavonoids. Flavonoids are the phenol compounds present in many fruits and vegetables, and they are most commonly consumed by humans through diet. All the different classes of flavonoids like the flavanones, flavones, anthocyanins and catechism have been observed to exhibit a variety of pharmacological actions. Though the flavonoids are known to interact with many of the cellular targets, only recently there has been a great interest among the scientist to delineate the molecular mechanism of action of flavonoids. Since understanding the molecular mechanism is very much important for predicting the clinical feasibility of a drug, this edited volume has been designed to collect and compile the information's available on the molecular mechanisms of flavonoids as review article. The book comprises of 14 chapters and each chapter summarizes on the progress made in the falconoid research, for the treatment of various disorders like cancer, diabetes, infectious diseases and so on. The available literatures on the molecular mechanism of the flavonoids are discussed in all the chapters, which will promote the researchers for further investigation on the pharmacological applications of flavonoids.
Dr. K. Pandima Devi is currently working as Associate Professor at Department of Biotechnology, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. After obtaining her PhD in Biochemistry from University of Madras in the year 2001, she did her Post Doctoral Research at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi on expression of human sperm specific proteins and then in CSIC-CID, Spanish National Research Council, Barcelona, Spain on synthesis and applications of peptides for diagnosis of Rheumatoid arthritis. After joining as Faculty in Alagappa University, Karaikudi in 2003, she is mainly focusing on isolation of bioactive compounds from marine plants like seaweeds and mangroves to be used as promising drugs for combating Alzheimer's disease and lung cancer. She is also concentrating on nanotechnology based delivery systems of the bioactive compounds, which will provide a novel medical strategy to combat these diseases. She has published over 75 scientific papers and review articles and nearly 12 chapters in books. She is a life member of BRSI, SBC, ISCA and Proteomics Society, India. She was conferred with the "Tamil Nadu Young Women Scientist Award" for the year 2010 by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Women Scientist Award for the year 2014 by Biotech Research Society of India (BRSI), for her significant contributions in the field of Natural Product Pharmacology.
